Crank-Pedal thread is shot, can this be repaired?

  • The thread on the drive side of the crank arm for the pedal of my bike is completely shot. It was a stupid mistake by me in the first place, not installing the pedal fully and letting it rip out. Now I have an almost completely stripped thread on my crank.

Is this fixable? Can I redo the thread?

It would be annoying to replace the crank because the chainline is pretty good and i don't want to mess about with it.

    Many thanks, Tim

Try using loctite on the few threads you have left.
Failing that...helicoil (assuming its the drive side)

  • You need to search for a helicoil of the right thread.

  • You need to search for a helicoil of the right thread.

In fact you need to search for a bike shop that could do it for you at the right price, weighing this against the cost of a new crank.
