contact Martin Coopland at Reclassicbike@aol.com. Martin Coopland also holds the original records of Bates frame numbers.

Definitely early 1950s, between 1950 and 1954. Lugs are the early-type Nervex Pro which first appeared about 1950 in Britain. Bates of London (Horace Bates, not EG Bates) relocated to Westcliff on Sea in 1954 and the badge changed from Bates of London to, surprisingly enough, Bates of Westcliff in that year. The cycle parts appear to be original.

sold but not to me. i recieved an email from friend of dicki once saying that he had a offer of 400 but heard nothing after that.
even if i didnt have an interest in the outcome of this sale i would have to agree that it was a pretty poor show on so many levels. for a sale to be this contrary there must be someting fishy a gwarn.

Loic
That's a fantastic bike.
Is it up for auction or first come first served?
If that's a Bates of Plaistow then would date prior to 1954 if I'm not wrong.
EG Bates stayed in the area - his brother moved out to Westcliff on Sea.
Does he know what model it is? Looks similar to my B.A.R.
