RALEIGH TEAM REPLICA ROAD FRAME 1984/5
Seat Tube (ctt): 58cm (23in)
Top Tube (ctc): 57cm (22.5in)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: Sprints or 700C front and rear (brake drop of approx 45mm)
Bottom bracket threads: English
Frame Tubing: Reynolds 531C
Raleigh produced a lot of frames in Team colours in the 1970s and 80s. This is one of the Team Replica frames produced in the Lightweight unit after it moved to Nottingham and was built in 1984 - it seems it was sold in 1985 as it has the Reynolds 50th anniversary tubing decal on the down tube. These were built in small batches to order and were made from Reynolds 531C tubing. This one is in sound condition though the paint has suffered a little. Careful retouching would make this frame look quite presentable. It would make a very easy singlespeed or fixed conversion. £95
STAN PERRY ROAD FRAME 1960s
Seat Tube (ctt): 52cm (20.5in)
Top Tube (ctc): 55cm (21.5in)
Rear dropout width: 120mm
Wheel size: 27s, Sprints or 700C (brake drop of approx 65mm)
Bottom bracket threads: English
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Stan Perry’s bike shop was in north-west London - Sudbury Cycle Works. I don’t know whether he built the frames himself or had them. This frame is however really rather nicely built and I think dates from the early 1960s. The paint is rather scruffy but does have the charm of a well used but not abused bike. It would make an ideal single speed or fixed conversion with it long horizontal dropouts. £85
SHORTER TT
Seat Tube (ctt): 21.75in
Top Tube (ctc): 21.5in
Rear dropout width: 122mm
Wheel size: 700C
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 butted main tubes
Brake drop with 700C/Sprint wheel: 45mm
Alf Engers the great British short distance time trial specialist rode Shorter frames in the 1970s. Their frames were not built in house but by a variety of framebuilders including it is believed Vic Edwards and Wally Green. This particular frame could well be a Vic Edwards built frame - it is lighter than a standard 531 DB frame and has some really nice details including the fastback seatstays. It has quite tight clearances and steep angles and if fitted with new track dropouts would look really really rather good. £89
RALEIGH ROAD FRAME 1989 Reynolds 531
Seat Tube (ctt): 56cm (22in)
Top Tube (ctc): 55.5cm (21.75in)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop of 45mm with 700C wheel)
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
This frame built by Raleigh in 1989 has Reynolds 531 butted main tubes. The paint is sound though it has lost its decals. It will make an ideal budget conversion. £54
DAWES ROAD FRAME 25.5in Early 1980s
Seat Tube (ctt): 65cm (25.5in)
Top Tube (ctc): 58cm (23in)
Rear dropout width: 124mm
Wheel size: 27in or 700C
Seatpost size: 26.6mm
Brake drop with 700C wheels: 66mm
Large road frames such as this rarely turn up. This frame is in very sound condition - the brazing to the top tube was to fill a small dent. This frame would benefit greatly from a repaint or powder coat. And with longish horizontal dropouts would make a really easy conversion to singlespeed or fixed. £35 SOLD
JOHN HARDISTY TOURING FRAME c1980 (Dawes Super Galaxy)
Seat Tube (ctt) : 52cm (20.5in)
Top Tube (ctc): 55cm (21.5in)
Rear dropout width: 125mm
Wheel size: 700C
Bottom bracket threads: English
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
This touring frame with John Hardisty decals (John Hardisty is a Newcastle bike shop) I think is a Dawes Super Galaxy from the early 1980s which has had cantilever brakes added. It is a little earlier Super Galaxy than the one I had for sale last week. Its in very sound condition and the cantilever brakes have been brazed on for use with 700C wheels. The paint is a little scruffy and definitely needs touching up in a few places. £65 SOLD
RIBBLE ROAD FRAME 1998 Reynolds 853
Seat Tube (ctt of top tube): 21.75in (55.5cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 21in (53cm)
Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: Sprints or 700C with a brake drop of 43mm
Seatpost size 27.2mm
This is an extremely nicely tig welded Reynolds 853 road frame which is complete with Columbus straight bladed forks, an excellent headset and bottom bracket. £95 SOLD
CLAUD BUTLER ROAD FRAME 1960s
Seat Tube (ctt): 53cm (21in)
Top Tube (ctc): 53cm (21in)
Rear dropout width: 120mm
Wheel size: 27s or 700C (brake drop 57mm)
Seatpost size: 27.0mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531
This is a really rather nice but scruffy Claud Butler road frame from I think the 1960s. Taking a 27.0mm seatpost its almost certainly built from Reynolds 531 tubing. It will make an excellent budget conversion. £65 SOLD
RALEIGH MIXTE c1970s
Seat Tube (ctt): 53cm (21in)
Top Tube (ctc): 55.5cm (21.75in)
Rear dropout width: 122mm
Wheel size: 27in/700C
Seatpost size: 25.4mm
This Raleigh mixte is very pretty and dates from the late 70s – the paint is not perfect - it has quite a number of marks etc but does look very presentable. £29 SOLD
