Specialized Globe Roll 2

  • just wondered what people thought about this bike.
    visually it is really nice, with its deeps v's, suicide bars etc.
    has anyone ridden one> or have any positive/adverse reactions?
    my brother really likes it, and is wanting one for xmas, whereas i said he should save 300 and go for a fuji 09 track. but im no expert.

    cheers yo.

  • Looks like a ghost bike.
    Go for the Fuji.

  • Integrated stem/bar combo. Great! How am I supposed to put stupidly wide BMX bars on that then, huh..?!??

    Quite pretty though - very retro-frame-rebuild in looks. Or like a steel Langster in white. ducks But in truth, I reckon it looks no better than my old Raleigh will once it's had a paint-job and got some deep V's on it.

    For some reason though, I'm liking the look of those super-straight front forks.

    But all in all, I'd spend my hard-earned elsewhere I think.

  • Change the tyres as soon as possible, they don't feel very grippy when you touch them;

    the stem is just a quill stem not ahead as I've notice;

    best Globe product is the Live and Haul, they look like excellent bike for the money;

  • Yeah the forks are the most eye catching thing about it for me. the roll 1 seems a better value option, but i just think its aimed to much at a trend.
    ed what globe live is that a 1 or 3?

  • Anyone here gonna own up to owning one?
    if you do what you thonk of it?

  • Yeah already did a search but that doesnt give any views from owners that actually use them does it.

  • Sausage Roll

  • Swiss roll

  • Roll in the hay....with me....you lucky devil.

    I'm only charging £5 for this once in a lifetime treat.

  • i have one (the roll 1), picked it up mint condition 2nd hand for £180

    but then 2 days later someone tried to steal it and bent the whole crankset, costing me another £100 to replace

    has a few crap components on it otherwise as well, the freewheel namely. i replaced the handlebars and the pedals too - between the grips and the brake levers there's this annoying shim that seems to just be there to make the grips look flush with the rest of the bar, within a couple of days it came loose, started to rattle so I pulled them off.

    you might have to replace the saddle as well as the one it comes with is a rock hard plastic number - mine came already replaced.

    otherwise it's pretty good for an OTP, but probably not as good as some other ones if you were buying brand new.

  • Can anyone suggest a ride similar to the Globe Roll 1 for a similar price (£450 / £500) that would be better? Don't have the time or money to build. Cheers

    Never thought I'd get to say this but UTFS! http://www.lfgss.com/thread9085.html

  • welcome to the darkside.

  • Bought my GF the roll2 - she decided she wanted t stick to the caargo bikes so flogged it but it seemed really solid - wheels are top notch too, unusual for an OTP.

  • Frankly, the cargo bike is a much better value for money and a whole lots more comfortable than the Rolls.

    But the Roll would be more nimble and faster, completely different bikes!

  • I love it, has changed my life. Lost 4 stone already. Good beginners bike. The tyres aren't slippery at all once you get used to balancing your weight, but they wear quickly and mine already has holes. Grips don't stay white either.

  • hah! A post i can comment on with authority.

    I've had mine a couple of months. General impressions are good, but the more I think about it, the more the bike feels quite heavy. The wheels esp. It's my first SS and I haven't tried it fixed yet.

    The freehub it came with was a piece of shit. I say was because after one very wet commute the thing completely destroyed itself and had to be replaced. Cyclesurgery replaced for free, but told me it was a cheap Taiwanese crap component. So it's nice to know they trust the bikes they sell.

    The mondo tyres were also crud. I quickly discovered white tyres are basically a waste of time. The ones it came with were pretty crap in the wet and puncture easily; two punctures later the tyres had wholes which I could see the inner tube through. I took them off and have some black tyres now...

    Otherwise I'm happy with it. My grips are still pretty white.

  • thought I'd throw in my comments after having my roll 1 for a couple of months.
    It's my first fixed, and like the handling and quick acceleration. it feels heavier than my old roadbikes but dont really mind too much. I assume this is because of the steel frame.

    agreed on the rubbish freewheel, I'm using mine fixed now so no problems there.
    The stock saddle was binned on day one and i'm not 100% on the handlebars (may replace soon) but everything else is pretty good.
    the in-built chain tensioning screws are really nice for getting your chain tight and wheel straight, especially for someone like me who's never had horizontal dropouts before.

    overall im pretty impressed with it, yeah some of the componetry is a bit average (standard specialized) but happy with it as an OTP for a reasonable price, and lack of fluoro.

  • i'm just about to try an acs claws freewheel. had 2 shimanos die on me now.

    the frame is cromoly i believe
