I always wonder, how do these people manage this? I mean, to find an old thread and then bump it... Is there a plugin which makes you click submit a second time, after telling you how old the thread is?

you, er, search threads or scroll through threads started by other people, then write a reply and post it............some around here call it 'utfs' -using the fucking search,
not a bad idea seeing as there are 37,163 of them on here.
