  • Theres a track skewer? hhmm ill have a look through my spare parts

  • No. It was a serious question. The tacx, at least the one I own, is designed to be used with their skewer - its a fair bit bigger than a normal QR skewer and fits the retaining holders perfectly.

I'm guessing, being as you are talking about a track bike, that you may not actually be using said turbo trainer as per manufacturers instructions. RTFI.

  • Yes you're correct. I previously switched the rear skewer for the tacx one so it fits into the clamp. Ive found some adaptors online which will do the trick.

  • Here's what I did as I couldn't use the skewer on my track hub. I 'modified' the mounting point by removing one of the plastic locking nuts. The wheel is off centre on the roller but it makes no difference.

I couldn't find an adapter for track hubs and Tacx never responded to my questions.

  • They are designed for 135mm rear spacing not 120mm

Here's some track nuts you can use instead of your normal ones so they fit Tacx turbos. Kinda like the alternative skewer for the road bikes.

£10!? I'm sure Brucy could knock a pair up easily.

  • HI guys,

Does anyone know if there are any issues with using a turbo trainer with a fixed gear bike? House mate doesnt like to cycle in the winter (pussy) but wants to train a bit before summer rides...

Problem is he only has a fixed gear and so do i so he a bit confused as to how the turbop trainer will work, is it ok to use afixed gear bike or are there isses with rear widths etc?

    Any help is appreciated....

  • Agoraphobic: means literally, fear of the market place

I am no help on training devices, exercise for its own sake is for total weapons.

  • Most turbo trainers are designed for 135mm 9/10spd road bike spacing. Just find one that will fit your fixed and you'll be right. You might want one with remote resistance altering too.. coz with no gears... BORING..

  • Agoraphobic... my mistake.... Can also be used to be a phobia of the outdoors... Dont think he is actually agoraphobic but dont understand the concept of cycling in the living room... seems a bit pointless...

Ok so he has a cannondale capo, will get him to check the spacing and get a trainer which fits that.....

    cheers fellas...

  • he'll miss hollyoaks if he cycles outside

    With gears ...BORING!

  • Most TacX have enough adjustment to accommodate fixed rear spacing, also have resistance adjustment lever you can attach to bars.

  • He willl possibly want a set of the Tacx track nuts that fit into their and Cycleops clamps perfectly. Made for non QR axles. If Decathlon have any left in stock they are half the price of anybody else.

  • I've got an ancient Tacx, it works fine with 120mm/fixed

  • I've got an ancient Tacx, it works fine with 120mm/fixed

is it still working well etc or will do the same job as new one?

  • It's a really basic one, no where near as sophisticated as a new one, but its all I need atm given how little use it gets (I'm lazy).

  • housemate wants to buy new one, found a tacx or somthing reduced form 169 to 100 so seems to think its worth buying despiote the fact i know he will never use it... and ill take the piss out of him constantly if he does.

Says the boy who's never used a turbo.

Yeah i know what it means, just like that the literal translation. And good spelling ;)

+1 I can't see the point either. Except I suppose if you're into all that racing malarky and want to get fit even when its icy. Meh.

  • When the weather's been this cold, who can blame you if you don't want to cycle outside!!!

Iv never used a turbo, however when he does get his i will have a go and even if i like it i definately will tell him its crap... iv given him too much shit to give up now!!

  • I have one similar to konijns and it works fine on my track bike. It does make a fair amount of noise when its running at a reasonable RPM. I presuming this is normal.
