Or should the lesson be for bus drivers to only open their doors when at a bus stop?

Didn't mean to sound that arsey...hope the ped's ok

Bus stopped about 30ft infront of front of bus stop, 10ft out from the kerb.
Not exactly undertaking the bus at the stop. Glad to head all ok though. -

Not arsey at all. I get a little irritated when drivers dont stop on the kerb to let passengers alight and to compound this dthey don't use their indicators either. It's fucking dangerous. Watch for cabs doing this also.

Not 100% fair.
Not 100% true.
If you're travelling in a straight line in a single lane of traffic with loads of mostly stationary traffic, a cycle lane painted on your left; a bus that's a fair way off the kerb is very inviting and in some cases fair game for under taking- especially if it doesn't look to be anywhere near a bus stop. With Mopeds/motorbikes whizzing on the outer lane it can be the only option. (say, Cheapside, London for example) -

for the record, the front of bus was 30ft in front of the front of the stop, so about 10ft behind the end of the stop.
was not pulled in b/c of parked cars i think. but still, don't undertake buses, at stops, pulling into stops, or ever. try to not undertake anything.

This happens all the time on the lemming highway towards Bank from L. Bridge. Most buses let their passenger off a fair way from the stop which is on to a cycle path.
One bus driver had the audacity to feel it appropriate to hurl abuse back at me.

Agree with velo-libre - too much discussion. No doubt this was an accident but if you're undertaking buses and can't stop in time for passenger to exit, you're absolutely in the wrong. Twice.

And, sorry to turn this in to a thread about me, but I once had a woman have a right go at me because I held her up because I didn't undertake a bus.
I told her to Google 'female cycling fatalities London' which would illustrate why it's not a good idea.
People need educating. -

fact.
Better to be riding the middle line with motorbikes than cycle lane with peds, taxis, buses and Parker cars. In my opinion. To make it about me, I've hit four peds, 3 of them while undertaking.

It's entirely possible to not undertake anything as policy but to be overtaken by something that then slows or stops which then renders one in the act of undertaking even though it was an entirely unintentional act.
I'll just shut up.
-

You can make it harder for them to do that by riding out in the lane, either they have to overtake you properly in which case you are able to overtake them again or they have to stay on the wrong side of the road.
But don't get me wrong I still do undertake sometimes, I just berrat myself for doing it!

Perfectly valid point. You don't have to undertake to shut up, either. ;)

I take it that Wicksie's saying that her positioning prevented the woman from going down the inside of the bus.

We were both on the inside approaching traffic lights and then a bus lane after that. I can't remember if the lights had turned red or if I'd slowed to let the bus in to the bus lane (it was in front of us) so I could go round it, but she just wanted to keep plowing ahead, in a straight line, seemingly with her head down and not looking beyond what I was doing.
Classic example of only noticing directly in front of you. It made me so mad because had I have been an inexperience rider, she could have encouraged me on the inside of a bus. She's not only a danger to herself, but other people. -

Just tell people like that to fuck off or shut up. We all have the right to ride safe.

Useful tip.
Another good way to hit them is to ride fast on the pavement, or perhaps recklessly in a shopping arcade. -

that^'s reminiscent of a Viz TopTip
Taxi Drivers: next time you're at the garage, ask your mechnic to check that your indicators are working.

hope the peds alright... i hit a ped last saturaday, she just walked into the road without looking and she told me there isn't even a cycle lane when i knocked her into one haha...

Ha, gold.
Usually my first thought in any altercation is to slap them with a few 'fucks', but I was so astonished at her stupidity, I was speechless. I had to have the conversation whilst in transit further down the bus lane.
She was still arsey with me so then I defaulted to the usual expletives.
Cycling north up portland place, queue of traffic, go to front.
Bus stopped about 30ft infront of front of bus stop, 10ft out from the kerb. Woman sat on floor, cyclist talking to her, apparently ok, just bumped head, ambulance on way. Apparently the woman got off the bus and the cyclist hit her.
So, don't undertake buses.
