You are riding a gear which is higher than what most riders use on a track on the street.
I can imagine the bike will have zero agility and in the heavy London traffic you will really struggle with delicate moves that require instant acceleration and decelaration. In this weather I am amazed your knees have not given out. I would seriously considering gearing down. With a low gearing you will learn to spin, which will be far more efficient and kinder on the knees.
I'm currently running 66 and can hit 30mph in a couple of seconds and can get it up to about 34mph when needs be
