Went to Condor this afternoon - first time since they'd done it up and have to say, very impressed. Indoor bike racks, helpful staff, loads of decent stock at good prices....

Almost came away with a black Phil Wood front LF hub for £99. It said 32h on the tag but luckily I counted and it was a 36h :-(

Druid cycles in SE1 is a bit pants... Nice guys & they can hack anything together, but if it's quality you're after then keep looking.

i like the cycles uk in greenwich. always found them to be helpful and stuff.

Evans are pretty hopeless in the main - the quality of staff is very variable, some of them being barely sentient, while some know their stuff.

Cycle Surgery are OK if you want to buy a bike or clothes, but not so good for components.

Condor are too snooty for their own good. And overpriced. Though their frames are pretty good.

For good, proper lbs, it's hard to beat Brixton or Apex. I had some ropy work on a wheel from Brixton once, and they certainly are quirky, but it's a good atmosphere, and the staff are pretty knowledgeable. At Apex, too, they know their stuff, and don't mind dealing with repairs or supplying components for bikes that aren't from the last couple of years.

Bikeplus and Geoffrey Butler in Croydon are pretty good too.

Slightly out of London (just), I highly recommend Corridori near Epsom. Paul Smith is very knowledgeable, and they will all do that little extra to get things right.

I needed a Campag Record chain this weekend. It turned into a huge mission, nothing at Condor, Velorution, Bikefix, Evans or Cyclesurgery.
Eventually got sorted out at Mosquito. points to them!

I've never been to Mosquito, though I first heard about them in the 80s. If I lived a bit nearer, I'd give them a go. They used to have rather a higher profile than now.

I forgot to mention Putney Cycles. When I lived in Tooting, it was effectively our lbs, and we got good service from them.

Been my lbs for 6 months now. Couldn't be more happy :)
They might not have the widest stock, but their knowledge and customer service is second to none. And any mechanical job or item under £5 means you have to insist they take your money.

Just like to big it up for Tower Cycles in Cable Street ( in an arch near the Royal Mint St, Leman st. crossroads).

Went in needing a stem bolt and the very nice man in there gave (yep free an grattis !) me a second hand one. Got me out of a spot, Thanx. Top quality humanity, I say.

evans in gatwick i found great but nearly all the others i been into were terible, some couldnt even tell me if they had a chain and i could see behind them lol
