I have run 40c on an Open Pro quite happily. Not sure whether it is a good idea though!
Yes 29er is 700c but the point of saying 29er is that it means the wider MTB rims rather than 700c which means a road rim. They are mostly disc specific so no braking surface and a slightly lighter rim. Some of the 29er rims are almost on a par weight wise with a decent 700c (Open Pro)
