Any way to get e-cigs free on NHS?
Fair play to all that give up by way of cold turkey and so on, though.
Currently not up for the HTFU factor of the latter, the small pen type inhalator seems unnatural, gum is just rank, and that drug that [allegedly] makes you want to kill yourself doesn't look too appealing either...Been riding single over fixed these past few months due to some incidents involving the chiltern hills. Still suffering in a way, presumably due to somewhat low lung capacity due to smoking circa 30 a day for the past 15 years (blunts notwithstanding).
Do GPs generally have the wherewithal to check lung capacity at their surgeries? I remember, as a boy, some kind of medical roadshow did attend my place of education with such a device, however effective authoritative control or power over access to the device was maintained exclusively by the bigger boys and their cohorts and I apparently did not meet the access criteria.

I think it was easier for me to quit because I always hated the preripherals of smoking, the smell of my clothes, the hairy tongue in the morning etc etc. I know this kind of thing doesn't bother most smokers, but I'm a bit of a fairy, I have to shower and shave everyday.
Learn to hate them, relish the unpleasantness, it helps

I have now not smoked cigarettes since August last year and am feeling really good on it.
In the past I have gotten this far and further. The longest period was for over 18 months.
In the past I have always started smoking again because I have convinced myself that I am a 'non smoker' or an 'ex smoker'. I now realise that those are false thoughts that cause me to believe that I can have a cheeky one without any ill effects. Simply not true.
I am convinced that I am a smoker and that I will be for all of my life. I am simply now a smoker that doesn't smoke. Hopefully be remembering this, I won't end up back on the sports sticks.
Good luck and remember that the cravings do pass. I used a mantra of "this too will pass" whenever I wanted a fag. I also found that change of scene , ideally a holiday, is a great way of escaping from your usual triggers.

I gave up 4 years ago. The one to also do is to get a bottle and every so often drop £5 or £10 into it as that would have been the money spent on fags after a couple of months you can break it open and treat yourself to something nice knowing that you have bought it for free as you didn't waste your money on fags.

I quit in 2006 and i'm still going strong. i smoked a fag a month for about a year after i stopped, then a cigar every couple of months till about 2008. no fags now. I knew when i gave up that was it. i challenged myself that i couldn't do it, and wanted to prove myself wrong. also kept picturing my girlfriends 'really disapointed' face when i was weak. hardest thing i ever did though, and i'm so pleased i did it, i totally have that 'I can do anything' attitude now as well. didn't use any quitting aids apart from normal wrigleys extra. (still on a pack of those a week though when i'm nervous or stressed.)
Now when I try to get my brother to quit he keeps saying 'you weren't a real smoker though, it couldn't have been hard for you to quit'. Fucking c*nt. He was the one that got me started too!

I know what he means though, I could never have a fag first thing in the afternoon. I know people that crave a cig as soon as they wake up. I could never understand that.

I was on 40 a day and remember when you could smoke on the upper deck of a bus and the smokers carriage on the tube. Them where the days.

Those CCTV screens seemed to be on every bus about 2 years ago, and while idly staring at one I saw it showed this kid smoking a zoot on the top deck. He looked so peaceful, it was a picture of serenity. He calmly finished and got off 15 mins later
Inhalers and gum must surely only be viewed as a short term solution to get you out of the habit of smoking a cigarette. You can't beat a nicotine addiciton by taking more nicotine.
