Anyone know Sharepoint 2010

  • My boss has asked me to find out about Sharepoint 2010, and identify what the right resources/books/training are in order to get people skilled up in it.

Trouble is I don't know what the hell Sharepoint 2010 is. Even googling that brings up lots of marketing bollocks from MS but nothing that I can actually make sense of.

So, I figure this is as good a place to ask as any...

  • Have a look at the wikipedia article on Microsoft Sharepoint.

Basically it allows you to use a web based application to build collaboraton sites for teams/individuals, and these sites can have all sorts of 'web parts' on them, like document libraries, links to calendars on ms exchange, blogs, wikis, forums etc.

2010 is the latest version of it.

  • runaway

  • it's piss easy

Get a test platform set up and play about. you don't need lessons. it's rapid deployment shit

  • run away now whilst you still can.

It's not called Scarepoint in our office for nothing.

In order to get any decent use out of it you will need a decent sharepoint designer to design the site for you (or take some design lessons yourself). If like our company you decide not to do this and just throw it in with the basic settings, you will find that it will turn into a completely useless POS on which you cannot find anything uyseful - because no-one is actually managing it properly.

  • Cross Thread Quoting:

    I know SharePoint (big understatement).

If you want to talk about SharePoint any time, let me know. There are very few people in this country who know this product as well as I.

  • ^ Shaftpoint - base installs, not managed - that sums it up. Useless. And to think I was considering training in it

  • It's just a wiki for people who are scared of wikis (ie rough and ready format, some coding required, etc.)
