  • Date yet to be confirmed but this was mentioned on the Dunwich thread. Having looked at the route it deserves it's own thread:

  • this might clash with the Vätternrundan. if not...

    IN!

  • Ah, thanks, David, good job I looked before starting a thread, which I was just about to as I didn't mean to derail the DD thread. The date will probably be the 26th June, so perhaps put that in the thread title?

Pretty much my thought. Since my other training ride is after the Vatternrundan, if this is before it I'll be doing it (providing it's not the weekend prior).

I'll wait until it's confirmed, their site says TBC still. People will rule themselves out based on date and yet it's not actually confirmed yet.

It is worth mentioning that even in between the major climbs, it's a constant up and down. Very little real flat.

    I was going by this:

    http://exmouthexodus.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18&sid=e061119b40077dd3f56a0bcd3b893732

The site isn't updated that frequently, but you're right, if they haven't done it yet, perhaps they still have an uncertainty.

  • Love their FAQ:

Do I have to wear a helmet? It's your head. Do what you like.

  • This looks good, but if it's June 26 then it clashes with the Dorset Dash :(

Yeah, they recognise this, but have to follow the full moon.

Though their forum suggests that they have tended to do the week prior to the full moon in the past.

Anyhow, date not confirmed so not yet a problem for anyone.

  • Does anyone fancy riding from London to Bristol that day before?

I might be. Let's look again closer to the time. Depends on whether anyone would be able to put us up in Bristol, I guess?

  • Cool, that sounds great. I'd love a nice quiet ride L-B. I've been meaning to do that route for some time. We'll have to take it easy, as the EE is demanding.

  • In, if I'm not doing an audax or off on my London to Prague ride.

  • It will probably be a bit of a MARATHON calendar. ;)

  • date pending, i'm in.

    #amfrightenednow

  • i'd be all over this, we go through where i used to have my paper and milk round.

    Its a stunning route

    Stunning?
    Meh...
    Looks ok.

Definitely you dishing out the papers mind.

Lies! Don't listen to this man.
The Dorset Dash is June 19, not June 26. Their website just hasn't been updated.

Thought I'd wade in with some local knowledge - it's pretty flat between Bristol and the Mendips, then after Cheddar until the Blagdon climb you got the Somerset Levels which is, uh, really flat. Fair enough it's pretty lumpy after the Blagdon climb all the way to Exmouth then...

David, I've ridden it twice, and I do think that between the major climbs (i.e., obviously not before Burrington Combe) the two sections after Cheddar and after Blagdon are pretty hilly. Remember that I'm from London--my definition of 'hill' is probably rather more generous than yours. ;)

  • another vaguely localenger -- those of us with the good fortune to have been born in the southwest of england certainly have different definitions of "hill", "flat", and "steep".

Gorgeous route, the view over the estuary from the top of woodbury common is amazing.

  • Saturday 26 June - Sunday 27 June.

  • Awesome, so we got it right based on the forum chatter. It's the week after the Vatternrundan for me... so I may drop out if Sweden wipes me out. But hopefully I'll be feeling stoked and fully recovered and totally up for a warm-down ride.

  • Tempted to do this, already have the Dorset Dash the weekend before... Will have to make suitable sacrifices to the gods girlfriend to ensure she doesn't become too displeased by my spending all the weekends cycling.

  • ayup - hope to see plenty of you guys in clifton on June 26 - i'm one of the organisers of this jaunt, inasmuch as it's organised.

Oliver's right - nothing much to worry about before Burrington but the bit after Cheddar isn't flat even though it's technically the levels. There's a sharp climb out of Wedmore (albeit a short one) followed by a pan flat section of about 6 miles which ends in the climb to Shapwick. Then you're back down on the levels again and it's flat for ages, all the way to the tea stop. lumpy after that until the climb up Blagdon, then 10 miles of flat straight roads over the Blackdowns, although these can be pretty hard work into a headwind. then you drop doen and it's lumpy all the way to the sea, with a big climb over the common right at the end.

not been many fixers in the past four runnings so it'd be great to swell the numbers a bit :-)
