• Just a little update: the police were doing a reconstruction of the accident this afternoon using Stella's bike, which was undamaged in the accident, and the actual lorry (not an articulated vehicle - a medium sized DAF). I spoke to the deceased's sister for a while and she told me that Stella was a very experienced cyclist, also that because her nearest hill, Maze Hill, was too steep for her (it was a very chunky-looking MTB and she was 67), she used the Woolwich Road to get to the gentler Westcombe Hill for her regular destination of Charlton Village.

Somewhat surprisingly, Stella was not caught in the drag sweep of the lorry but went under the front nearside wheel.

If it's any consolation, the police seemed to be taking the reconstruction very seriously, with driver line of sight photos and theodolites and all sorts of other gear. Let's hope it leads to a fair and just outcome.
