Decent affordable wheelset for commuting?

Posted on
  • Hello,

I bought a Felt F40 a couple years back off of here and the front wheel is now totally knackered so I'm in the market...

Thing is, I don't know a huge amount about bikes... so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations.... I'm hoping to not spend a huge amount, although it seems to me all the wheels in my price range (ideally no more than £100) are a bit crap.

But hey, maybe for my uses I am ok with a bit crap.

    So... any suggestions?

Also, would I have to buy a whole new wheels set or is it cool to just buy a front wheel?

    Thanks.

    N00b.

  • This one is still available.. http://www.lfgss.com/thread13176.html

  • What's knackered about your wheel? Beyond repair?

  • i think so... I broke a spoke a while back, and from the same incident the wheel bent quite a bit. I took it to a local shop to have the spoke replaced and the wheel straightened, but they struggled to get it true and said it was the best they could do.

since then I have ridden it for another couple months and the wobble seems to have become accentuated (just woke up, brain not working so not sure if that's a real word)

  • May be a stupid question, but is it geared, singel speed, or fixed?

If there is nothing wrong with the rear, just buy a front... unless you have to have matching wheels.

I'd just post a wanted here or go on ebay as you can get often decent wheels for a good price.

If you want a full fixed wheelset, those halo ones seem good value, or there seem to be plenty of system ex / mavic etc. on ebay around £100... like these.

  • Nope, not a stupid question. despite it being a fg forum, its 18 gear, so I guess I just need a front wheel?

I haven't noticed any problems with the back one. I will check it out.
