From my experience worth doing. The G4 that died is still going strong 1.5 years later, after the new hard drive was installed.
If you can get DiskWarrior to recover the files you need I'd just get a new PPC compatible hard drive from macupgrades & install it in your old machine and then re-install your OS/ software etc. Probably just as cheap / cheaper than buying a second hand one and I would think more reliable.
