My only thoughts are that "external" QR's (dunno exactly what they're called..) where you can see the cam surface on the lever, and you can see the concave washer, don't generate nearly as much clamping force compared to the older, less sexy internal QR type (think shimano qr, campy qr) which are much better.
On a back wheel I've always regarded a qr as marginal under a big bloke* or a small person and a small gear, and skidding, so I tend to recco older stylee qr's. My (old stylee) qr axle seems to creep about a bit (medium size sprinter, minimal skidding), only a data set of 1 of course....
