• Hi folks , I'm going to fit a paul racer brake to my fratello to go round the 28mm tyres and mudguards. Trouble is there's no cable hanger on there at the moment. All the ones I've seen on line are silver and I need a black one. My other concern is that I've read they can be a bit flexi, leading to spongy breaking. Anyone got any expereince of this?

I've discovered an alterntive though, it seems some pro riders and cyclocross riders drill their stem and send the brake cable straight down through that thus removing the need for a hanger. Anyone here done that?

Black one, i have used one and it didnt feel to spongy, and pretty cheap!

  • I have another question about cable hangers. I'm building up a single speed cross bike and just about the fit the brakes. However, I've just realised that CRC haven't sent the cable hanger I ordered. Is there some workaround until I get one fitted? Could I just have the cable going from just past the bar tape to the straddle cable holder?

  • No it needs the hanger assuming you are using canti's and not v's

  • Apologies to CRC, they did send it - I had completely forgotten I had an unopened parcel. Problem solved. Cheers.
