as you said, it will probably be crazy hot. no vents. what is wrong with ear phones? that, and it not being designed for cycle use, i would recommend you look at protec bmx ones.

They'd be too hot even in the winter. You come from a skating background so would you use a skate helmet for rock climbing, motorbike riding, working on a building site? If you're getting a helmet get the right tool for the job.

...But after biffing it in LA last November and busting my collarbone my wife's insisting on me getting a helmet...
She does know where the collarbone is, right?

Doesn't matter where it is, everyone knows wearing a helmet will make you safer! -

These helmets are for snowboarding.

Bern Watts BMX is the answer to your problem - BMX/Skate style helmets are better than normal bike ones, since IMO too many compromises are made to lightness and breathability.

If your all lycred up then obviously a BMX lid is going to look stupid - i kind of agree with what you said, but if i was going to wear a helmet round town, it would be a bmx/skate style lid, that can take multiple impacts, and IMO is much better suited to the impact that you are likely to sustain around town - the downside is they are heavier and hotter

you make a good point vinylvillain, ive never thought of that before
I know there's been a lot of threads about helmets - but didn't see anyone who mentioned the K2 helmets.

Off the bat - they are for snowboarding. I know. Thanks. Really.
But after biffing it in LA last November and busting my collarbone my wife's insisting on me getting a helmet, and obviously I've been resistant because they're generally uncool and uncomfortable and expensive.
But she says I can't ride until I get one, and the collarbone's just healed properly, and now I want to ride. I'm used to having some music on really low when i ride, so these K2 helmets with built-in speakers (apparently done WELL) have appealed to me. I have a skating background so I think I prefer the skate style helmet to bike style.
Because they're for snow it's probably something you'd only want to use during a British winter like this one, and in the rest of the year it would probably be crazy hot.
Any comments?
