Wanted: Bike/frame for my girlfriend

Posted on
  • I want to build a bike for my girlfriend, she's about 5'4, 5'5 something like that, not sure exactly what size frame but pretty small I reckon.

looking for a shopping bike, town bike or something, I don't want anything too racerish

I have nice wheels and cranks already so it doesn't need to be complete. Basically looking for a frame and if it comes with seatpost, bars, brakes and levers, that's a bonus

I've got a SS MTB which is about 80% done which I can straight swap if anyone's interested

    thanks

  • I'm in exactly the same position. I've acquired some parts already and just need frame and wheels. She likes the idea of gears(!) but only 3. Any more are too confusing for her, besides we're not living in Keswick. We live in Hammersmith and the nearest big hill is Ladbroke Grove. Sturmey Archer seems like the most sensible option at this point in time.

  • I have a old falcon ladies frame in red. 531 tubing. It's my mums old frame

I can take some pictures and send u them when I get home.

  • i have a whole bike up for grabs, an original Raleigh.
Everything, including the tyres are as bought new back in the late 70's/early 80's, except for the bars and grips and missing mudguards (which were cracked and broken from sun damage)

  • question: i'm in a similar situation to bodieanddoyle (building a 3 speed bike) but i already had a frame, it takes 700c wheels and has horizontal ish dropouts - are there any particular problems with putting a sturmey hub in a normal frame (apart from probably having to build up a 700c sturmey wheel)?

    thank you.

and apologies for derailing your thread. although any bump is good i suppose...

  • I have a 14" slot drop out on one inbred v brakes if you are interested?

  • I've got a ladies raleigh steel step-through frame in black with a single speed set up at the moment. Bullhorn style bars and 2 brakes.

it's a 48 cm seat tube and i'm about 5'5, and it fit me well.

  • I have a pinarello Treviso up for grabs if that interest's you?
drop me a PM if you want to make me an offer.

  • Nice little Pinerello.
I was doing this last year. I had several doner bikes and was looking for a decent step through frame to suprise her. After popping into Evans on the way to the cinema I began to realise she would be happier with a loop framed ladies bike Pashley or the like.
I sold a load of bits and picked up one of those Dawes Heritage bikes in black which she was over the moon with. It looks nice but is put together very badly. I know deep down I could have put together something a lot nicer. So I wish you the best of luck in your hunt.

  • my girlfriend has a vintage Edwardes frame hanging around the house, we tried to build it up but the top tube was too long (she's shorter than yours, so it might fit) frame, forks and seat tube. headset is nice and bearings are smooth.

here's a photo of it built

i think she picked it up for 50 pounds, so an offer in that area would be good. let me know.

    oh and its 48cm.

  • Just finshed two like this:

for Christmas for my gf (pink) and her female best friend (blue). Lots of fun on Boxing Day watching them wobbling down the street and far more satisfying building the bike up myself than buying even a decent bike. However, possibly not cheaper but plenty of bits left over for another vintage build!

  • ive got a nice girls bike in dark red with a basket and stuff, im looking for 50 quid.

  • Hi mate, I have a 50cm (seatube ctc) Paul Donahue. 531 competition tubes, immaculate condition, I intended for it to be for m girldriend. It's also a nice pastel pink sparkle stove enamel job if she's into that.

Drop me a pm if it's of any interest.
how much for this frame posted to brighton

  • thanks guys but none of these really do it for me, if anyone else has anything, please let me know. A mixte frame in a lightish colour would be awesome. thanks

  • Any more are too confusing for her

    Silly little women!

  • I've got a complete bike: a mixte Gitane 'Manhattan' hybrid. About 50cm. Early 1990's, and virtually unused. Only problem is it's in mid-grey hammer-finish enamel - not exactly a girly thing!
Nice kit on it though -mostly original - Maeda - SunTour.

  • My friend is trying to sell this: http://www.lfgss.com/thread33626.html
