Was wondering if anyone knew a good source for duck canvas? and also where in the UK you can get bespoke Leather embossers made?

Hey,
I don't suppose anyone has any spare canvas / tarpe / goretex or whatever waterproofy materials lying around? I just need a 10"x3" piece.
If I might be so bold as to request a colour if I had the choice, then it would be grey.Just need to figure out my sewing machine, and I'm away.
Thanks for the inspiration y'all. -

Any of you guys that have got your website/blog sorted out, and are** commercially ready to go**, please let me know,
so that I can very happily add you to the Messenger/Courier Bags List. -

Had a go at making my first bag today, about half way through... Turns out making a messenger bag is really hard, and I keep forgetting to do things, like sew on velcro before sewing up the sides.

It's a bit inconvenient always having to go to the mainland for an Internet connection, eh? ;P

I haven't seen anyone make their own double shoulder strapped backpack yet. I think that's what I'll try first.

I'm really keen to try making my own bag now, either that or getting my sister to help as she uses a sewing machine everyday.

made another today primarily out of blagged materials. Quite pleased with it - ridiculously overbuilt, so it won't break. hopefully.
Found the buckle in a box at my workshop. I used because it's called a 'fixlock'. Hipster-tastic. shit photo.
You can see that I put the top halves of the straps underneath the bag, and mounted the female halves on the bottom as opposed to the front, meaning that when not full it can be scrunched up into a manageable package, rather than a flappy disaster.
plenty 'o' pockets. terrible but strong stitching. terrible but strong photo (?)
a view from the front when empty
I haven't put the under-arm retention strap thingy on, but when I do I will getcha some photos of the strap arrangement. It's pretty standard though.
This was made on a weedy little domestic machine, hence the sketchy stitching, but when I can drag my arse over the 5 miles to my dad's workshop, I can turn out some more professional looking beauties on the industrial singer. mmmm :)
