okay. got a call from the station manager. the british rail fuckers from the station took it because it was locked up on a gate. it'll cost me a £10 fine to get it back, and £120 for a new lock. but at least it's back. which is unbelieveably great news.

Unless there is clear signage that bikes must not be chained to the gate or it is clearly in frequent use (at least once or twice a week) then I reckon you could sting them for a new lock.
I wouldn't normally be so sympathetic but rail companies and station staff have a shitty track record on bikes.
