  • My Bianchi was stolen in Stockholm last night, so if you were to see it on ebay or elsewere, please let me know.

    Specs here:

Boon, that's a nice bike, and I'm sorry it was stolen. How was it locked when it was stolen - ie. what make and model(s) of lock(s) did you use? Others on here use the info in helping to learn how to better secure their own bikes. Thanks.

  • Hi Guys

Had my 10 speed Mercian stolen from my studio hallway in Angel on tuesday, it is black with gold "MERCIAN" lettering, lugs lined in red with bullhorn bars Campag through out. Gona check brick lane on sunday, if any one sees it, give me a shout.

    Cheers

    Bonobo

  • My mates just had her Condor Potenza knicked in Westminster.. Its a black one with the "london" decals on it. Also has Silver Thomson seat post and striped red white and green ( i think) bar tape.. SPD pedals and Continental GP4000 tyres (again not 100% on whether they are GP4000's..).

If anyone gets offered this please PM myself or Gloved Pony.

  • The bike was stolen from outside my friends appartment, it was locked through frame and rear wheel. Left it for about 5 min.

Alltough the bike was found today by a dude on the fixedgear.se forum.
    No damages, still locked.

The ride home was the best ride in while :)

  • Excellent. Bike looks great.

  • Awesome news boon, glad you got it back.

  • If only London was so simple.

  • The number of dodgy guys I come across on Gumtree trying to buy bikes is embarressing. I arranged to pick-up a single speed Bianchi last Sunday, turned up out the front of his 'estate' only to find his phone was switched off. He put up a good story beforehand but how can you tell if its legit or dodgy?

Not sure what your story means... are you saying how do you know if you're going to get robbed when selling something, or how do you know if something is stolen when buying?

....anyway, I think a good move is to meet outside a police station that way whether you buy or sell you have peace of mind.

when you say still locked do you mean with your locks or new locks? did you have to break the locks to retrieve?

  • is their anyway that this thread could be changed to 'stolen bikes (please tell us the locks used)' just so people also gave the extra detail,

GA2G has got me obsessed with this, and no one evers tells what locks they used on first post.

(ps was the Mercian locked up in you studio corridor?)

In the first *Stolen Mercian* thread, it was Velocio that asked "How was it locked"......2 years ago I think.

Photo, location, time and description of the bike please!

And... was it locked and what with?

Not a trend that I started I'm afraid. Anyway, many people are too embarassed to say that their bike was stolen due to poorly implented locking procedure, or inadequate equipment. I understand that part at least, though its not very constructive, nor helpful to others.

  • still its much appreciated that you keep asking, the knowledge is invaluable. Thanks for the locks thread as well, and thanks to clefty for the alarm review.

    essential stuff.

can this thread be changed to having in brackets 'please tell us what lock you used'

  • saw a guy today at the corner of oxford street and park lane, wheeling a mountain bike on with another front wheel over the handlebars. presumed stolen.

  • You stop him, and ask?

  • no.
    a) he would have just said no, obviously.
    b) there is no way i could have proved it.
    c) there was nothing i could have done to stop him.
    d) calling the police, and they would have turned up after he had left, and even if they did find him, there is no way they could prove they weren't his and he'd lost his key or something.

    what would you have done?

  • true, good point, well made.

  • Also, it can be really annoying when people do stuff like that.

Eg: once I was carrying my bmx frame home from work and this woman gave me/the bike the dodgiest look that seemed to be very suggestive of "you scum bag, you just nicked that did't you" kind of thing.
For some reason it just really annoyed me.

The guy with the wheel could have been totally innocent and he would have just thought you were some busybody with nothing better to do.

Or it could have been stolen and he could have been a rabid crack-head with a knife.

  • It's the motion of the ocean, not the size of the boat.

    Writing that one down...

  • Hey Spooky

No, the Mercian was not locked, you have to get through two doors, both of which were left unlocked, its also up six flights of stairs. The lock was left around the bars, which was stolen as well! The entire reason i took it up is that i didnt want it stolen and i though that would be the safest place.

    Irony or what...

indeed. i was once taking my frame on the tube to get headtube reamed and faced and headset installed and got sniggers of "gutted, someone stole your wheels!"

It was still locked with my lock.
I used a ABUS Granit Futura mini, and it´s still intact, still works perfect. Guess I can recomend it, maybe on the more expencive side.

  • Wait... So did you just forget where you left it? Or did they find the key for your lock, take your bike and lock it somewhere else?

  • I'm guessing it was locked to itself?

  • Waste of money....

  • Yeh, that abus + bolt cutters... Not a great combination.
