Look Warranty

  • For pedals, specifically the 'Look Keo HM Carbon Ironman' ones.

I bought them last January, but didn't use them till round Easter. They have seen plenty of use, but I like my bikes clean, so they certainly havn't been un-loved. I still couldn't really believe the state I found them in after Saturdays ride, as if they wore out in one ride.

Here are the pictures, and also what the surface looked like new:

The box is up North along the shop I purchased them from, so I'm wondering what to do until I can get back up there?

When looking closely at crank side area its clear to see that the whole 1st layer of carbon has been worn through and that it's well on its way into the next layer ... I can't imagine theres all that much left to go through with the bearings there.

  • Give them a call and see what they say - which is probably not much without seeing them, but at least your queiry is logged. Any good bike shop will want to look after you the best they can.
I have carbon ones too but have only used them for races not training, they are as new.

    Good luck!

  • Look, or bike shop?
No quarms with the bike shop, got new bike being built there now, so they should be happy to help

  • Fisher Outdoor Leisure are the distributors and pretty much all shops have an account with them, do you have proof of purchase as this will definately make things easier?

  • Thanks Tiles, there is a high chance the receipt is in the box - hard to check for now though.
I will ring the bike shop, and also see if they can do me a new receipt for when I got them, I'm sure they could do that.

  • If you don't have the receipt just have a word with fisher or the shop, they might be able to sort you out. where abouts did you buy them from?

  • Hewitt Cycles - not a bad word to say.

  • What's the prob? They're even lighter than what you started with.

  • The bike has been made as heavy as possible ... so that whilst training with people on R3's I will get fitter quicker. Therefore i want the 2 grams back!

(And I don't fancy riding on the bearings)

  • That's why the new Keo2max pedals have a steel plate covering that area, although the wear on yours looks atypical even given that Keos are notorious for getting worn. Look have a pretty good reputation for replacing frames with even cosmetic failures, which bodes well for your chances. Look states a 2 year warranty in the Keo instruction book, so you don't need to worry about EU directives.

I don't think you're supposed to use Keos for anything other than Pro Tour races, where you put your shoes on in the team bus and they never touch the ground from then until you get back into the bus at the finish. Any dirt on the cleat is stuck firmly between the cleat and the pedal body through your whole ride, and if you have floating cleats it acts like a very effective oscillating grinder. Keep them clean, never walk anywhere until you've put the covers on and you should be OK.

  • And don't bother with the 'grip' cleats, because they're rubbish. the rubber starts coming off after 3 seconds and makes it way harder to clip in and out.

  • Thanks for that.
Yea I don't like the grip cleats, they just grip the pedal when trying to clip in, I have 1 set of old cleats thats getting saved for the summer, hard to find now somehow.

  • Epic bumb, well conclusion as I remembered I posted this in the first place.

LOOK are fantastic, it took so long because I was at uni so couldn't get the pedals to the shop and then couldn't collect the new ones once they ha arrived. The shop just said they had the replaced ones in and I forgot to ask were they at least any version of Keo2Max, well this is what the froggies sent me last month - Good things come to those ho wait:

The price tag reads £249.95, might not use them in crits...

  • Noice pedals with a really nice engagement click, I have a pair on the road bike.
Like the rest of the bike however I'll never do any of it the justice it deserves.

  • I only notice the difference on release. Clipping in is like having the adjuster screw turned quite far down, press hard, pop, in.

On release there was a "middle ground" not in or out with a spring, but these don't, more like a switch.

Only used on the turbo so far :(
