wanted to share this with ya'll but didnt want to start a new thread.
this is me many years ago in a race at crystal palace (tuesday nights as it was then). also in the picture is my friend david fry who was also in the VCL velo club de londres. the rider ahead of us is from the gemini cycle club. the circuit was a killer but much shorter than it was when races were originally held there (maybe 40's). i stumbled across this picture today. the frame is a benotto.
hairnet helmet, wool jerseys, adidas merckx shoes ...................niiice :-)sorry if i missed something.
Looking comfortable, very nice. Good to see they haven't changed the numbers in the last 30 years! Presumably what happened next is you and Fry bided your time until the rider in front was tired, launched an attack on the final lap and shook off the Gemini rider and took a VCL one-two?

cheers illy that is a beautiful version of events and one that i would love to tell my grandchildren one day. sadly it would be a lie. we would have been juniors i think and maybe a couple of laps away from being gobbled up by the senior cats and pros. tony doyle frequently rode it then as did sean yates occasionally. if russell williams rode it he won no problem. when they thundered past it always felt like your wheel cones had been tightened secretly. our gearing was restricted but that wasnt the reason. i wish i had trained harder or more sensibly back then.
thinking about it your version kind of reminds me of what happened in a kent road race league but it was a sprint finish and we got a vcl three four and i got the third i could have won it but i positioned myself really badly on the last left turning before the line. -

Two old, one new
Vic Murphy did the best tabletops/1 foot tabletops ever. His clips in Ride On were amazing

VCL for me too, this is me winning a race at the late Eastway...think they got close to or went over the course limit that day with over 120 riders in this race....JC of this forum is in the pic too...to the left.

I like that one Winston.. Caught at just the right moment when you've sat up. It almost looks like you didn't try and still beat them

You always look a bit like Eddy Merckx and quite a lot in such a slightly out-of-focus photo, except that Merckx didn't wear helmets like that in his day.

This one's a beauty. If anyone asks what riding fixed is all about, I'll show them this photo. I like that the cranks are even lined up with the tube... Awesome.
