Yeah I'm really hankering after some tubus racks. Not exactly cheap mind.
Re: brake clearance... If you got the gilles berthouds to fit in the space you have, you could probably dent/bend/flatten a section to accomodate your brake action. Chances are that your SKS ones are already a bit narrower than the Berthouds, so be careful, maybe try to find a shop that sells them to check out whether they fit. You could do what some would do with any mudguards and tight clearances, cut the front off so it doesn't need to go under the steerer or brake at all, just up to the mounting bracket behind the forks. Or use Salmons which are (nearly) flat, super narrow for tiny clearances and skinny-ish tyres.
