It is amazing the amount of waste there is from things being out of date when they are not out of date at all, you can eat/drink most things long after they say they are out of date. My dad was a milkman (a milkman, not the milkman) and so I don't think I had an in date dairy product until I left home, they chuck so much stuff away it's sickening.
