  • That's what his twit feed said, yes.

  • Lance's ride kicks off a few hundred yards from my house. I'm going to pop down and take some pics, but fuck 'riding' with the thousands of spandex-clad roadies, and nodders out on their bikes (or hired bicycleSA bikes) for the first time in years!

Going to watch the action live on Sunday. Sit in the park with a few longnecks...

Translation: I'm too slow so I'm gonna take photos and dream of one day owning my own set of colourful lycra.

  • Ha. Be great to be at the front with the man himself, but the majority will be stuck, crawling along like critical mass.

(btw - I wear a yellow lycra jersey for work everyday and admit that I quite often don't change to go to the pub after work.)

  • It's a bit early yet, but the always excellent cyclingfans site will have links to internet streams for training races like the Tour Down Under here;

    http://www.cyclingfans.com/

Later in the season they'll also have links to see some proper races.

I watched pretty much all of last years TDF through links on here while at work... very useful.

  • a trip down memory lane, just like the Ashes from England on the radio
Coverage is available "full [audio] coverage of all stages live on 891 Digital and streamed on the web"
    details here
Advance warning about the team of commentators. They are local generalist sports reporters doing their best, not cycling fanatics. If you hold that thought, it should be entertaining.

  • That's a little less likely to get me the sack, nice one big block

Well it's just a warm up to all the proper stuff. Something to remind you what a bike is after it's been in hibernation over the winter.

  • I know. I was baiting a hook for our Aussie friends to see if any of them bit. Some of them get all upset when you call the TDU a training race.

  • Training Down Under.. it's in SA.. none of us Vics give a shit. I would like to watch it but I'm not paying for it.

  • You cunts will probably try ans steal it anyway.

    :)

  • Get back down the mine, westie..

  • Ha!

  • You cunts will probably try ans steal it anyway.

    :)

the Vics only steal the big loss makers like the GP.
We are so sad that the Vics have to bail it out each year.

Back to the TDU, we see it as a chance for the younger members of the teams to put on a show and get noticed.
Armstrong and McEwen are putting on a ride tomorrow morning and inviting everyone.

  • Did the Lance Ride this morning. Heaps of people showed up. There was a group of about a dozen of use on fixed and met a couple of others along the way. Great ride. Once it got passed the starting section it opened up and plenty of road to get some speed up. Tail wind all the way up the coast, then we managed to draft roadies against the headwind on the way back. Got some pix by me and my missus here...

  • Highlights of the prelude race are here

  • Highlights of the prelude race are here

    cheers for that

  • did the lance ride too, 10,000 they estimated...mental

  • Did the Lance ride too.
As the leaders rounded the Bower Rd roundabout I was approaching it. Saw Armstrong with a big grin and punching the air. He was looking at all the riders following along Military Rd.
In a later interview he said the normal 'Lance' rides were a circuit, as this one was out and back he could see all the riders out for the ride, and was stunned at the number.
I did the 'Ride Like Crazy' yesterday as my last big ride before Fridays 160km stage.

  • Shame it's not on freeview, good to see Team Sky at the front, am i contradicting myself?

  • I watched the highlights on the Team Sky site.. it would seem that I have been sucked in by the slick marketing and team with a smattering of Brits. Will I stop short of the team jersey though?

I wonder if the decision to limit sponsor logos had anything to do with wanting people to buy a jersey they would actually wear or if it was all about visibility within the peleton and on camera? You definately knew where they all were in the final lap.

  • Yes, good to see Team Sky's Kiwis and Aussies doing so well.. :)
