If she's interested I have a small double room available in my shared house in SE22 (East Dulwich). It's £450 pcm all bills inc. PM me if interested.
East Dulwich is handy for King's College (nice area & short bus ride).
She could also try looking on the East Dulwich forum:

If she's working at King's, East Dulwich or Peckham Rye (slightly cheaper) are the best places to look. As above look on ED forum.

I'm witting this because you're from Ireland and hence I guess have a diffrent legal setup e.t.c for renting / letting, sorry if I'm telling you how to suck eggs.
If you go though an agent you will have cost such as credit checking and agents fees but you (should) have your deposit in the deposit protection scheme. If you go though gumtree and have an informal agreement with a landlord you may avoid all the extra cost but you may not have the full legal protection.
You pays you money....
Either way alway check for gas certificate and now the 5 yearly electrical certificate is also a legal requirement (this may be EU though so you may have the same deal?).

No probs.
I'm sure others have more current experience (have not rented for years) but she should expect / be prepared for the following especially if going through an agency.
- Minimum of 1 months rent as deposit per person (although many places ask for 2 or even 3)
- Credit check / employee / character references
- Bills are not usually included in the rent (but sometimes / rarely can be) If not hey will have to pay for the things you mentioned above - gas / leccy / water / tv license etc. I think the tax thing you are talking about is council tax which they will also have to pay unless they are students.
I'd also advise them to take fully seriously the inventory before they move in -make sure they are present when it is done. I once got caned on my deposit for stuff that was already broken / missing when I moved in.

@ TheBrick(Tommy) thanks so much, that sort of advice is so good to get.
In Ireland most stuff is done thru ads or sites like daft directly with landlord, you'd normally have a lease with a certain amount of protection but friends of mine had a years worth of hassle getting there deposit back when they moved.
We've an energy rating cert giving you an idea of the insulation/double glazing but nothing practical like the gas or electricity certs.
How do I suck an egg?
Greetings from Dublin.
A bit of a strange one,(the request that is not my sister) but I suppose thats what Miscellaneous and Meaningless is for.
My Sister has just moved from Dublin to London to work as a nurse in Kings College Hospital with 2 mates. I'm not looking to put her in with any of ye ;) but if ye had any suggestions of good places to go looking for a house.
In Ireland there's a great site called daft.ie that has houses for rent, houses for sale, house shares etc and I was wondering if there was anything similar over there.
In Ireland, you pay your rent and your gas/electricity/telly and thats pretty much it. I believe ye get screwed for rates or taxes of some sort in certain places? is there anything else my sis would need to watch out for.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
