A jury can be so stupid at times - they always seem to defer to 'expert' opinion for some reason. You only have to see the problems caused in the baby shaking cases a couple of years back to see how wrong they can be.
I always had some faith in the legal system. That was until the day I discovered a 'murderer' had moved into my flat share. I was fine with it after the initial discovery. This was mainly because I trusted a jury to get it right. The medical opinion in his case suggested an odd reaction to medication caused him to put a kitchen knife in his mate's chest killing him and then taking on 6 coppers (sans knife) and doing quite well it appears.
I thought that given a jury of his peers - obviously fucking mentalists - had found him not guilty and that the CPS hadn't pushed for manslaughter that maybe it was a medical reaction that made him do something a bit out of the ordinary.
Nah, it just turned out he hid his psychotic leanings quite well up until the day he snapped and showed his true colours. It was at that point a light went on in my brain and I realised that he was more than capable of losing it and doing great harm... I'm only glad it didn't happen in the kitchen and that my flat mates were out so he could only threaten them over the phone. lovely bloke.
In conclusion - a jury knows fuck all and are easily led. Too many people end up confusing CSI/Silent Witness/Juliet Bravo with reality
