• Flipping a stem from rise to drop always effectively increases the stem length. e.g. flipping a 100mmx10deg stem increases reach by 10mm while dropping the bars by 34mm. The centre of gravity of you body moves forward, due to both the extended reach and the drop pitching your torso forward as you bend from the hip. That puts more weight on the front wheel, and as any fule kno shifting weight forward on a single track vehicle slows the steering.
