  • Edward, skidding is the only way of stopping suddenly on a brakeless fixed wheel bicycle.

    Lots of interesting things happen out on the road, some of which include people and/or vehicles suddenly crossing your path whilst you are riding your bicycle at great speed. To avoid collision, a 'skid' is usually required.

    I avoid skidding at all times unless necessary, although I am sometimes pretty lazy and skid instead of pushing back on my pedals.

    Bikes are boring.
