  • You guys seem to be full of opinions so I thought I'd ask - would you think it reasonable to post a frame just in a cardboard box without any bubble wrap or other packing material?

I've recieved a frame from a member these forums sent this way that supposedly started out "perfect" and by the time it got to me it had chips round the top of the seat post and bottom bracket and grazes on the seat stays and dropouts.

He seems to think just bunging it in a box without packing materials is acceptable - I certainlly do not.

What do you guys and gals think?

  • Not acceptable.

  • lazy

    i wouldn't be happy

  • Send it back...

  • yeah not on.

  • It would have had to have had amazingly rough treatment to be chipped in a box- so I suspect it was chipped before it went in.

If it's not packed correctly to take care of it/and/or/not in the state described then as Joe says- send it back.

  • I've had a similar experience. Bought a bike and the seller didn't pack it very well at all. This resulted in the frame being damaged, but Parcelforce were willing to compensate. I sent the frame back to him, packed it really well - Full of old newspaper, bubblewrap and used those plastic things to keep the seatstays/dropouts safe from being squashed. I then got the repaired frame back pretty much bare in the box, with dropouts exposed. Twat!

  • Tube insulation from a DIY is available in all diameters and for GBP 3.- to 4.- you have more than enough for a F&F.
Seller should have done that as a standard procedure.
Same as old axles or threaded rods between the dropouts F&R (or similar kind of protection).

  • Send it back ,pipe lagging and bubble wrap is cheap stuff to buy and newspaper and cardboard free ,its not hard to pack a frame properly

  • I always pack mine with all the spare bubble wrap I have and then pack out the box with old carboard boxes. The frame cannot move in the box, even if thrown around. The postage cost goes up as the bike frame is the lightest thing in the box but worth it!

  • If I sent you the frame then - it's all fine and you must have damaged it when taking it out of the Awesome Box(tm).

If it was someone else - hang them from the highest yard arm!!

  • Thanks for the opinions - seems to support my view and I will carry on the pursuit of justice!!

  • This was his reply when I said I wanted to return it:-

"I am under no obligation to do anything and as the frame was fine when i sent it to you.
    Therefore i am not refunding."

    What a c*^t

  • I believe the condition of the item when you recieve it is what matters, no?

  • Name and shame.

  • def name and shame.

  • Name and Shame

    Name and shame.

    def name and shame.

    Take your time ;)

  • pictures of the damage?

  • Plant cress in it.

  • Stupid little cunt by the name of pelt

Hope no one else has to deal with the prick

  • serves you right for buying a GBBF

  • Shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame... Tho' I've had similar things happen to me a coupla times on here... Life's a bitch...

  • if it did not come as promised because of the packaging, send it back with poo in the seatpost, just to send a strong (smelling) message

  • Dead easy to go into Halfords or Evans and they will almost always give you a bike carton and packing bits to safely post out a frame. Just ask nicely its not too difficult. Shipping can be had for around £9 via ebay.
