Similar to how Ray explained, I get one side on 1st with inner tube in place. Then work on the other side, often by using a few tyre levers to keep the bead initially on rim. Then just push rest of bead on bit by bit with forceful hands.
The last tyre I put on was a marathon + 32c. Was a bitch but it went on.
