My ex wants to do her first triathlon in the summer. She’s asked for my help finding a bike. The bike would be for training and then racing.
The catch is she only wants to spend ~£200.
When I think of tri bikes I think of £1k+ uber-hi-tec machines, but then after some searching I realised that ppl do them on relatively normal bikes.
So my questions are:
what is the best bike to get? a second hand alu road bike right? Is there anything to look out for / concider that might not immediately come to mind?
Setup? – I’ve told her to work out her sizing via competitivecyclist.com. Would she she need to worry about tri-bars etc. or am I being overzealous?
To what extent do I need to worry about gearing (very dumb question I know…and no I don’t know what the terrain will be)
Are there any good places to look / go for bike classified and other info that ppl can recommend?… I’ve signed up to Tri-Talk and am trawling my way thru - any other good forums?
All and any advice much appreciated – especially from those with actual experience.
Some advice sought…
