[DISCLAIMER: it's a bit rich of me to but in since I only made it to one session of north drinks in 2009, but as a local I thought I'd suggest a couple of good options if you are really thinking of changing venue... and since I plan on making at least one appearance in 2010, I suppose I have a teeny vested interest.]
anyway, not far from (the bottom of) Swain's Lane you might want to consider both The Star (Chester Rd NW5) and The Dartmouth Arms (York Rise NW5). Lots of nice beers/ales/ciders, also good food (though the Star's grub tends to be on pricey side, the DA is more reasonable - & very decent burgers).
The DA hosted the Rollapaluza CC Christmas bash, and staff was very accommodating. We'd booked out the back room, and they let us take in our 20-ish bikes so we didn't have to worry about locking them up outside. Not saying they'll do that on a normal night, obviously, just pointing out that they are a mighty welcoming bunch. Over and out.
