Congratulations on winning a chance to ride with Team Sky as part of the official team launch. You will get to meet and ride with some of the Team Sky Pro Riders and feature in some of the launch film and photos.
Please read the following information and safety instructions to help us ensure that the event runs smoothly and is an enjoyable experience for you and all the riders.
Important Information
Unfortunately we won’t be able to provide mechanical support during the ride so we would recommend bringing necessary kit in case of a puncture etc. Also, keep an eye on the weather – fingers crossed it will be sunny but come prepared as you may be standing around for a bit at the start and finish - a high vis jacket is highly recommended and a thermos with a hot drink!
We won’t require you to leave your bike anywhere but if you want to get autographs or need to grab a coffee we would suggest bringing a bike lock to ensure your pride and joy is kept safe.
On the Day
We will send you an SMS at approximately 07:30 on Monday 4th January telling you your secret start location is. There will be several locations and all are within 3miles of Trafalgar Square so if you are in central London waiting you will have plenty of time to get there. Please note that if you are with friends there is every chance you will be sent to differnt start locations. Don't worry too much as all the rides end at the same point, at the same time so it won't be long before you allmeet up again.
Aim to get to the start location by 08:30 as this is when the pros will arrive. There will be a Site Manager and Ride Staff there and signage will help guide you to the exact meeting point. There will not be any special catering or toilet facilities at the start locations, but all the locations will have nearby cafes etc.
Please bring your confirmation email or SMS with you to sign in at the start – We would request that you don’t circulate the start location as the numbers on the rides have been carefully planned for safety reasons and if we exceed numbers there is a very good chance the Police will close them down.
There will be a ride briefing at 08:45 and you will be provided with a simple route map to the destination in case you get detached from the group. The ride is planned to get underway at 09:00 and will be led by a ride leader and the pros. There will be plenty of ride assistants who know the route and they will be there to help if you have any queries or problems.
Safety Instructions
Please follow the highway code on the ride and remember that the ride will be in normal London traffic – it will be the first day back in the New Year so traffic should be lighter than normal but please ride safely. A few key points to note:
• Make sure that you keep a good distance between yourself and the bike in front
• If you see or are involved in an accident please report it to one of the ride staff as soon as possible.
• Please try to ride no more than two abreast so as not to obstruct traffic
• Please stop at red lights
If for any reason you can’t make the ride please let us know but hopefully we will see you all fit and fresh on the morning of the 4th.
