You use £600 worth of jackets? I'm still using the £50 one I bought when I arrived here.

didn't pay for the attrition (free manufacturer's replacement for a berghaus solipsist i got BNSH for £100 that i found had a production fault) or the microtherm (test gear from shop that i've still got), paid trade for the pulsar and all jackets were bought for winter climbing purposes rather than cycling.
until i got the pulsar and microtherm i was more than happy in my £16 harrington style jacket unless it was pissing it down.

I just got a dhb Wickham eVent waterproof jacket from Wiggle. £85 with the £5 newsletter discount code.

Seems pretty nice so far. Also has tonnes of excellent reviews. Was wearing it with just a Helly Hansen baselayer last night, and it's also got enough room to fit my Buffalo Special 6 shirt underneath for when it gets really cold.

Anyone recommend a jacket for long arms and a short back? find bike specific coats usually come up a bit short in the arm.

rab vapour rise trail smock is long in the arms but not waterproof if that's what you're after.

Well since buying the Rapha winter jersey mid-November I've been wearing it pretty much non-stop. When its been really cold I've been using a base layer - thin merino mid layer - winter jersey and its always been warm enough. Windproofing at the front is excellent and the side vents on the jersey are very effective too for when I've got too hot.
Only thing about that I'm not 100% on is the very bright pink lining down the zip which isn't entirely to my taste and is not really visible on the photos on the Rapha site. It wouldn't have affected me buying it but it really is very pink.
So in classic Rapha style, it works very well, looks great but is a bit pricey -

Have been loving my ventile jacket over the last few weeks. As expected it struggles when doing long rides/hills at speed (gets too hot) but generally it's perfect for urban commuting.
Today as the first time it has been seriously rained upon. It's amazing how the outer layer absorbs water and then actually stiffens up as the fibres swell up.

dhb Southsea had it's first proper test this morning; I was totally dry and kept temperate with only a long-sleeved tee underneath.

Berghaus being mentioned a lot I see.
Anyone know the cheaper models? Such as Riot II? At 120 quid it would compete with the Swrve Milwaukee I guess.
(photo included in quote because I refer to it)
Got this for £80 in the Berghaus store January sale. It's really good quality, waterproof, breathable and warm enough... but wouldn't say it's great for riding per se, as it's not a cycling jacket. The hood doesn't rotate with my head, and doesn't fold away when I don't need it. There is no bum pocket and obviously the side pockets are fairly useless when riding. The chest pocket is big enough for a mini A-Z, phone etc (it's about 5cm deeper than the grey hem thing you can see). I find it a bit too bulky and busy for riding to be honest, especially with a heavy bag. I would've got it in XS if available like my previous Berghaus simpler affiar.
Summary: if it was tighter-fitted, with a small roll-away hood, less dangly adjuster cord things, and maybe no side-pockets but one on the bum... it'd be great for riding. As it stands, I find it great for walking around in the rain. The hood has a stiffened peak and the collar has a soft flap to cover the cold metal zip against your chin. And some bloke outside a pub said I looked like a spaceman. -
