The road toll is a big deal in Australia. Its published quite prominantly inside the front page of Melbournes Herald-Sun newspaper every day. A few years ago (maybe early 2000's Hippy?) there was a massive heroin problem and they began publishing those death stats beside the road toll too. If I recall correctly, the Herion deaths eclipsed road deaths for a period of time. Made for grim reading.
