can I get some opinions on whether this was a good buy?
Dura Ace half track half road crankset - £65
Will having one crank sticking out more fuck up the balance?

doesn't matter now. Its gone.

True... but they've gone to me.
What do you recon?
I've heard that Shimano are rubbish for finding spare parts, so I guess I'll just have to try it and see.

In that case well done son.
I'm sure, at least for the price, you won't notice the extra bit of Q factor. Its not as bad as it looks in the pic either. Notice how hes not holding the crank flat with the other crank. -
• #21338
it will be fine, dont worry, I'm with Harry, you wont notice

^^Cheers guys... that's what I was hoping.
I figured I'd take a punt and get in there quick. Just a random find while I was looking for a wheelset.
The guy said it'd been used for time trialing... maybe the random dilled bit was for weight?

Shit that is pretty good.
Each spoke is tension checked six times during building and then we de-tension the wheel twice before final truing.
What's with de-tensioning before final truing? Do you then re-tension after? Is it to put less strain on the spoke/nips?
-
• #21342
I guess what they mean by detensioning (incorrect term) is when you apply force to the wheel to bed the tension in and then do some more final truing. Often there is friction left in the wheel where the spokes cross each other, if the friction isn't removed then the wheel would come out of true on it's first outing.
There's very little point in putting extra tension into a wheel just to remove it again... in fact it (in my mind) it would mean you either put too much tension in the wheel to begin with (stressing your wheel) or were left with too little tension at the end?

http://www.hetchins.org/904.htmHmm, I'm not so sure. The curve on the seatstays looks much more akin to a Hetchins, a lot lower down than on the fake one. I'd be a bit more worried about the rear dropouts, they look a little too new.
