Velo Orange 1" threadless headset

  • £25 from hubjub and very pretty. I want a brand new but old school silver/chrome threadless headset and this one's doing it for me at the moment, and cheap.

    Thumbs up?

  • Er, your post is titled threadless but that things got a big nut on top... nut = THREAD if I'm not mistaken? If you're after threadED, then you can buy a Shimano 105 from Ribble (and 100 other places cheaper probably, don't all rush at once guys) for under £20 and they are really smooth and don't look bad.

  • Could be fake nuttage..

  • could be, but then it's got that protruding seal on top, doesn't really hang with being squashed down with the old top nut thingy...

  • You use an incantation from the 4th Book of Spells to hold it all in place. The cap is just for the retro stylee..

  • SHIT, ABORT!!

I post at work, gimme a break!

I do want threaded, not sure why I did that. The reason i ask about this one is that it's more to my taste, but can't find any testicles testimonials...

  • can't find it at Hubjub but Freshtripe sell 'em, the spec seems OK on paper but never seen one close up... should do the job OK, certainly has a nice retro-ish look.

  • I meant freshtripe. What a clusterfuck, I think I overdid the coffee yesterday!

  • Chas Roberts has EDCO sport headsets. The one on my frame looks mighty fine, very retro with minimal markings. 16 squids if I remember correctly.

  • Massive diggage, apologies.

How did you get on with this headset mate? I'm looking for a tidy chrome threaded headset around £30. Ribble seem to have sold out of all their cheap campag ones.

  • Go for the tange levin.
velosolo sells them its around £20

  • I have the levin on my bike and its doing the job very well.

I dont know the difference between sjs and velosolo ones. seems same to me. Maybe sjs put the wrong description? campags are 36.5 stack.
Those veloorange ones might be good too I dont know that either but tange is cheaper so go for it.

  • Well if the tange is working well then I guess it's a go, especially since my new build is going to be quite similar to your machine. This is a coincidence btw.
    Thanks for the tip T!

  • I've got the Velo-Orange (top picture) on my new build (here).
Unfortunately broke my wrist after only 3 rides (not bike related, but no riding for another 2 months), but have no problems with it so far. Bought it from Jamie at Freshtripe, who is very helpful.
