  • Ifany one was passing thru oxford circus this morning 10.50 - 11.30 and is wondering why it looked suspiciously like an old woman was knocked over by a cyclist, here's the story:

I was coming south down regent's street, arrive at red light on oxford circus. I move to front of queue where there are about 2 mopeds and another cyclist, red goes to green so traffic moves off and then some ped's decide to red man jump. I slow down and an old woman in the crossing panic's at the oncoming traffic whilst the other ped's move out the way. She let's out a yelp and trips over. At this point I was in front of her to the right. I stop to help her up and the other cyclist and mopeds carry on. Another man and I lift her to the side of the road whilst a woman holds my bike. The other man and I support her whilst I ring an ambulance. A cycle paramedic arrives a few min later and some PCSO's wander over. Find the woman a chair and sit her down. She was in pain and appears to have broken a hip. I hang around and give a witness statement to CW 7228. CW 7229 was on radio saying that the woman had been knocked off by a cyclist but that they had left the scene. Woman says it was all her fault and that she stumbled over. I then leave as the woman is transferredto a stretcher and put in an ambulance.

So basically, everyone should pay attention to the lights.

  • I hope you stopped the good officer mid-sentence to put him right.

  • Well done for stopping and being a gent.

    +1

PCO pulls theory out of air shocker.

  • well the pcso got that info from someone down the street, so i wasn't sure if the other cyclist or mopeds had hit her. turns out not

  • Good on you for stopping and helping.

  • Ah, that's what this morning text was about, good on ya Joshua :)

  • You did well. And you are lucky that the Daily Mail mob didn't lynch you just to prove the point :-)

  • This happened today down Oxford Street around 11 20 except i hit an old chinese women who decided to cross the road despite the lights being green. She panicked after seeing an oncoming bus from the opposite lane, stood still in the middle of the my lane and i rammed right into her....very painful for the both of us :(

  • Back in the day (when I couriered) Oxford st in the run up to Christmas and the sales was know as the shooting gallery and the opening of the shooting season.

Hats off to Velo Libre for being a decent human being. Null point to the dumb $%^& peds who end up hurting them selves and others.

It's Oxford Street mate, always, always (and I cannot stress this enough) expect people crossing the road when they're not meant to.

you'll find that you won't have anymore close call on road like Oxford Street anymore once you compensate your riding style on certain road.

  • why use Oxford st unless you are delivering/shopping there? it's not the best bike route

  • Sometime it is the most direct route.

  • This depends very much on your destination relative to your current position.

  • why use Oxford st unless you are delivering/shopping there? it's not the best bike route

understatement - maybe it should just be pedestrianised.

  • For example, if I was travelling from one address say, 151 Oxford street, and heading to 200 Oxford street, the most direct route would be to take Oxford street.

    See, Ed?

  • B-man is clever clown thought he deadness cometh sooner.

  • You get what I'm saying though, right? You wouldn't use Regent St, would you?

  • ...or city road, for example.

  • I would walk that I reckon.

  • Yeah, its not very far. According to Google that would be a journey from Boots pharmacy to a place called Schuh, which apparently sell shoes.

  • Could go round the corner and have Wagamamas for lunch too, once you'd finished shoe shopping.

  • See your bike, Balki?

    Yeah?

    Cool.

    Now GO RIDE IT.

  • I will after I finish my breakfast, RPM... Im poaching eggs.

Have you been for a ride today?

  • What do you mean "today"? I'm still on last week's ride you loser.

  • Its a bit boring, going for rides.
