Methinks you doth protest too much Harry, they're like cheese granted, but defintely aren't rubbish.
I was about to buy the Campag lockring but found out (from here) that they are thinner than the miche.

As far as I know, you're stuck with miche lockring on miche hubs (not sure on the vedict on Phils, they're Italian but other seemed to sworn that it don't fit on Miche).
