How do I protect to clips from damage?

I've recently added toe clips to my pedals and when pushing the bike along they tend to scratch on the floor, this is due to having big toe clips thanks to my massive hooves.

Anyway, just wondering if any of you lot have this problem and is there anything I can buy/diy to the front of the clips to keep them nice and shiny and not scratched?
