Campagnolo Record Skeleton Brakes

  • Are these brakes really worth the money? Do they really out perform the other campag skeleton brakes (like the chorus for example), or is it more a weight saving thing?

Also, I can only seem to find theses brakes in pairs. Does anyone know where I might be able to buy just the front, preferably in black?

  • Veloce do an identically good job. Only difference is weight and aesthetics...

  • Just ordered a new bike with Chorus, but upgraded the brakes to Record. Record have ball bearings rather than the plastic bushes used in Chorus. This is supposed to make the callipers more progressive and controllable.

Agree with Platini that most of the other differences between the two groupsets are the materials used so only affect weight and aesthetics.

  • Veloce have the cheaper brake pads with no brake shoe. Meh

  • Good point. I have two sets of Mirage (same pads as Veloce) and they are a bit crap. Centaur/Athena/Chorus are all similar so get the cheapest. Get Record if you want black rather than silver or you're going to be significant amounts of descending (thinking Alps rather than Brixton Hill).

  • But does anyone know where I can find a front athena, chorus, or record skeleton brake. After a whole lot of google searching, I still seem to be only be able to find them in pairs...

  • ask your local campa dealer, they might be able to order just one

  • Hmmm, I might just end up going for a shimano 105 - seems to fit the bill, definitely cheaper, and I can order it without any hassle...

  • FWIW, I bought a Tiagra caliper by accident this summer and they are pretty damn good for the money.

I did use Swisstop green pads on ceramic rims, but the stopping power was immense.

My DA caliper is my worst performing front brake. Figure that one out!

  • Yeah, well I'm a little ashamed to say that i wanted the campag mainly (though not entirely) for the looks. I've just ordered a 105 which I think is best. In my more sensible moments, I feel that buying a top quality, expensive front brake is a bit pointless for fixed riding.

  • Fixies have brakes?

  • No, sorry I didn't make myself clear. I ride a camel.
