^Those first three points are great. However I would strongly suggest taking all the bits off and greasing them (note I don't say re-grease) and tightening them up. The main one on this is the cog and lockring. They are on dangerously loose normally.
New tyres and chain are also very well worth buying pronto. But then its probably better to sell it and buy a new bike before you ride it so it doesn't loose its re-sale value so much :). Get anything It will be better. Ever since I saw a guy bring one in the shop where the rear hub just fell apart and all the bearings fell out I'm totaly 100% convinced no one should ever have to own or ride one. Ever. Fuck the 7/10 total cycling gave it. Totaly don't know about cycling clearly.
