Believe me you'll love the Gangsta, very stiff yet really comfortable to ride.
-
• #228
Are you sure? because the medium fit a 6'2 person (maximum) perfectly, so a large Gangsta should fit you nicely, that is unless you're more than 6'6.
6'7!

i ride a 40 and my normal size bike is a 52-53 seat tube
-
• #230
Yes, I checked it, but the actual toptube measurement is not there. And for some reason their old site just times out.
Did you end up getting one edscoble? How tall are you and what size would/did you go for?
The alternate site is now working
http://www.brooklynmachineworks.com/site/bikes/gangsta/gang5.html
Very strange geo though unless there is an error. The 46 has a 1cm smaller effective TT length than the 40 and teh 50 isn't listed!
I should stop looking at them though as I will never spend £800 on a frameset however much I want one :-(

I don't think there is an error thought, the 46cm one is pretty much the same (56cm effective top tube) as the 40, just with more seatpost for taller rider, the 50 isn't listed because it's an old site as the 50 is the most recent change and they don't show it on their main site due to people ripping off the BMW's unique geo.
dunno why they still have it up thought.

Strange nonetheless. Never seen top tubes get smaller as frame sizes go up before. If you are taller you generally need a longer TT to match the longer ST not a shorter one.
Or is all this part of the paranoia of people copying their geometry (as though it is THE definitive geometry that everyone would want to use!)

i didn't realise BMW were the only people using the double diamond 73° sloping top tube frame design.
-

even though(t) the frame is based on the original geometry of the raleigh track frame.

Also bear in mind that the Gangsta has toe overlap if your feet are at least a size 9...and as most taller people also tend to have bigger feet, you'll be glad of a bit more frame length...especially if you're planning to run fatter tyres on it too.
No it doesn't, I'm a size 10 and there are no toe overlap on the 46.

Ed, There is most definitely toe overlap ofn the brooklyn that you borrowed. -
• #237
I've never even notice a toe overlap on that brooklyn!
actually come to think of it, how far did scott set his cleat on his shoes?
-
• #238
His cleats are placed towards the front of his shoe (As they should be).
I've ridden the bike and noticed small amounts of toe overlap (My feet are sized between 7 and 8).
-
• #239
Mine the same, I honestly don't remember noticing toe overlap on the BMW Gangsta thought, I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I don't doubt your word, it's just pretty strange to me.

Ha.

ooof!
-
• #243
sorry, so was there toe overlap or not?
:-)
-
• #244
apparenty so, my toes must've been missing.
toe overlap isn't really a problem thought, I used to have huge overlap on my old bike, it only a problem when you're going really slowly.

(My feet are sized between 7 and 8).
Closer to the sink innit.
-
• #246
Are you calling me girly or just imagining fucking me against a sink?

PM'd for romantic date.
-
• #248
For anyone that cares... I spoke to Scott and he confirmed there is definitely overlap on the 46cm Gangsta.
I'm 6'1" and I've been strongly recommended to get the 50cm.

Hi, could any of you Gangsta owners tell me the height from top of crown to axle center of the Gangsta front forks? Like to know if it will ruin my bikes geo. thnx
-
• #250
if you look at this
you'll see it's a couple of inches
Cheers Unbroken and edscoble.
I think the medium is definitely the one to go for then.
I'll (hopefully) have her up here soon.
If I don't go for a Volume Cutter instead... Ssshhh
