I only live just up the hill from this, but I've been mostly off my bike for a couple of weeks, so I've been getting the bus across the heath, rather than coming down Vanburgh Hill, so I only just found out about this.
That's right by the bike shop, so I asked them about it just now whilst I was on the phone. They said there was definitely an accident but they don't know any details (they had been told it was mentioned on the BBC, although I can't find anything on the website), however there are flowers all over the railings now apparently. Which I guess confirms that this was unfortunately a fatality.
Condolences to family and friends. I'm sorry for your loss.
