Scary indeed. I hit 46 once downhill on a geared bike. That made me hit the brakes a few times; I'm too much of a weenie to want to go faster on a bike.
After coming off my bike and getting trapped in the frame somehow on my solid rubber tyred first proper bike, and sliding, and sliding, and sliding, and still sliding, with my face scraping the road intermittently and my elbow slowly disappearing, I had grazes right through the summer holidays and still have a couple of scars now. I hate to think what a decent crash will do to me at the speeds I ride as an adult.

I'm looking forward to never finding out.
