hill reps do work though.
Repped

They definitely helped my hillclimbing.

I was just going to allude to that.

I like the Mark Cavendish approach to training ... lots of bloody hard work and leave the science to scientists.

I just picked up the SPD-R shoes I bought off babydino from the Post Office.
I hope some of that old Povey
creatinemagic has rubbed off on them. Virtually brand new too. I definitely now have all the gear and no idea. -

Makes sense to me too, Obree was similar, I think. When asked about training Said something like "I ride up hills in as big a gear as possible"

^Thats exactly what I did last year. Only trouble was I damaged my knees and had overtrained come May. Thats why I want to try and be sensible this year.
I was riding up West Hill sitting down on a gearing of about 82 last January. My legs were fucking massive. But sime days I could barely walk :(

But you could sprint, and I bet that training helped. A good balance is prob the way forward. I was doing some laps of Regents park this morning and getting really frustrated spinning on a 69" I was breathing hard, so it was doing some good, but just wanted to really push some big gears.

HA. I was also doing laps of RP this morning. I was there from about 8.30 for 45 mins.
Fuck how cold was it? When I got back to the office my hands and feet were red raw.
I was even spinnier on about 64. My legs are nice and fast but yes I wish I could just put the pressure on and take the strain off. Must be good for you though. I think I may have got rid of my cold doing it -

I was there 8.40 till about 9.25!
Freezing yep, I had ski gloves on and have wrapped gaffa tape around my toe warmers, oh and thermal ski socks. -

We were probably going about the same speed and never caught one another. I was averaging just under 20mph

I was looking at those but they went for a small fortune.I have converted some shimano mtb shoes for use with spd-r for winter training, they work a treat.

You boys and your hills...
I'll leave it to Lee to opine upon hill climbing as sprint training ;)

I have been in America eating lots of food. Awesome winter training methinks...

I'm on target (or, er, track) for completing my goal of increasing my bodyweight by 10% between mid-October and mid-January. Nice and steady, putting on a stone in 3 months. Still on the same belt hole though :)

am envious of you guys out in RP today - how come? aint there work to do?!
-
• #493
Work in soho so just have to get up an hour earlier than usual, 4 or 5 laps, then work's just down the road!

anyone fancy doing some hillclimb repeats on swains lane/highgate? could do with a partner or two, helps with motivation!
-
• #495
I don't know why anyone would want to do hill repeats in ~zero temperatures. Can't understand you climber types.

No winter hill reps, no exercise-induced asthma!
-
• #498
Whatever. This is my Rocky training montage stage.

whats everyone squatting? I'm going 5x6 reps at 140kg twice a week on top of the usual 40k circuit and one hill session a week.
I'm walking like a cowboy buggered by a horse most of the week

i always have problems with exercise induced asthma come winter. i get a crazy uncontrollable cough.
its not as bad so far this year, but i think im adapting to it as time goes on. does anyone know if theres anything i can do to to help avoid it?
BMMF in 'ahead of the game' shocker again! :)
